
Long-Term Care Foundations is a free, short-term training program that prepares participants for entry-level union jobs in residential care homes, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes. This program is offered in partnership with The Urban Village and provides a welcoming, culturally and linguistically responsive learning environment for speakers of Karen and Karenni languages. You will learn the skills employers are looking for and receive work readiness training to help you get hired quickly. The program includes hands-on instruction, career coaching, language-accessible support, and opportunities to connect with employers who are actively hiring. No prior long-term care experience is required. Our goal is to help you start a stable union job and begin building a long-term career in the healthcare field while honoring your strengths, experiences, and cultural background.

After completing the program, you will be qualified to apply for entry-level long-term care positions such as Resident Aide, Caregiver, Dietary Aide, Housekeeper (Environmental Services), and Laundry Attendant. These roles support older adults and individuals with disabilities in residential care homes, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes. Union long-term care employers offer jobs with strong wages, benefits, and opportunities for advancement. This program can also serve as the first step toward higher-level healthcare careers such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Trained Medication Aide (TMA), Personal Care Assistant (PCA) and others. Minnesota Training Partnership staff will help connect you with employers and support you through the hiring process.

You will learn the basic skills needed to work safely and successfully in union long-term care settings. Training includes workplace communication, professionalism, caregiving responsibilities, workplace safety, resident interaction, and understanding employer expectations. You will also receive job readiness support, including resume development and interview preparation. Instruction is provided in a supportive, culturally and linguistically affirming environment with language assistance available. Employers will be invited to visit the classroom to share information about their workplaces and hiring opportunities.

This program is free to eligible participants. You will receive personalized career coaching, job search assistance, support services, and ongoing support from Minnesota Training Partnership and The Urban Village. Language-accessible instruction and culturally responsive support will further ensure you feel comfortable and confident. Staff will help connect you with employers and support your transition into employment. Our goal is to help you succeed both during the program and after you begin working. We continue to provide support even after you are hired to ensure yiour success on the job.

The program will run Monday through Thursday from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm for four weeks at The Urban Village. You will attend classroom instruction, career workshops, and hands-on training sessions during this time. Please note that eligibility determination, enrollment, and orientation must be completed prior to program entry.

This program is open to individuals who are authorized to work in the United States and are interested in starting a career in long-term care. No previous healthcare experience is required. The program was designed in partnership with The Urban Village to support Karen and Karenni language speakers. Participants should be motivated to work and able to attend scheduled training sessions. Minnesota Training Partnership staff will help determine if this program is the right fit for you.

After we receive this form, we will contact you to discuss your interest, validate your eligibility, and conduct assessments to ensure this program is a good fit for you at this time. Then, we will discuss the enrollment process and schedule you for the orientation session.
